Undergraduate Program

Welcome to our Undergraduate Program

Mathematics is a fundamental tool that is used in many disciplines, among them economics, engineering, finance, chemistry, physics, meteorology, genetics, ecology, and, of course, statistics and computer science.

The Mathematics major at the University of Georgia is demanding yet versatile. The skills emphasized by this major include problem solving and analysis, mathematical modeling, and abstract conceptual thinking.

Most undergraduate students at UGA take at least one core course in mathematics.  We offer courses in Mathematical Modeling (MATH 1101), Mathematics of Decision Making (MATH 1060), and Precalculus (MATH 1113). Many students take one or more calculus classes (MATH 2250/2260/2270).

We have some unusual courses for undergraduates with a high aptitude for mathematics and an interest in being challenged. Universities such as University of Chicago, Ohio State University, Vanderbilt, and Stanford offer courses comparable to MATH 2410(H) and/or MATH 3500(H)-3510(H).

We offer a B.S. in Mathematics. The degree program is quite versatile and, although some of our majors go on to graduate work, the majority pursue careers or graduate study in a variety of disciplines such as actuarial science, bioinformatics, medical school, law school, economics and finance, and software design.

We have a undergraduate study area "The Matrix", (thank you, UGA and NSF) and opportunities for undergraduates to participate in research groups.
