Nicholas Lindell has been selected as a 2019 Presidential Award of Excellence Scholar. Nick graduated in Fall 2018 with a double major in Mathematics and Music. He's currently enrolled in the Double Dawgs program and is working with Dr. Caner Kazanci on mathematical modelling of ecological systems. During his undergraduate days, he was very active both musically and mathematically. He earned the Strahan Award in 2017 - the highest award the department gives to math majors. He spent a summer working in the National Security Agency (NSA) Summer Director Program, and another summer working on Graph Theory in a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) at Michigan State University. Closer to home, he's been very active in the math department, in particular with the UGA High School Math Tournament, and the UGA Math Club, of which he is currently president. About the award: The Presidential Award of Excellence is awarded to undergraduate students in their final year of study who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, strong extracurricular involvement, and/or service to and involvement in their respective school or college. Students selected for this award exemplify the best of UGA’s undergraduate student body. Deans select a given number of Presidential Award of Excellence recipients each spring based the average number of graduating students from their school or college over the past five years.
