Graduate Student I have been interested in math all of my life. While I have always had other interests as well, math lies at the intersection of my interests, skills, and employability. I also really value the culture of the math departments that I've been in, where I have always found someone encouraging. I'm currently researching dynamical systems, specifically whether when certain piecewise smooth functions are applied to random variables. For a less jargon-filled explanation, I usually describe my work as examining a collection of pools, each with a pump between them. If the pumps are set too high, or unevenly, you might see the water get sucked out and refilled, resulting in the water levels bouncing up and down. I am looking at a question related to questions about whether the water levels will stabilize, as well as how to adapt other problems to be described in this way, so that we can apply our results more generally.
